THE SPIRITUALIST BELIEF

Many spiritualists are firmly convinced that they are given aid by departed spirits, though many will admit to 'cheating' by getting the questions unknown to the audience.

Only recently, a well known spiritualist visited me, and in the course of our conversation, firmly proclaimed her abilities as a medium. She wished to purchase a few 'impression pads' to 'get the questions' for the sake of showmanship, insisting that she was a genuine spirit medium, and her answers originated in the spirit world. She said, after all, it is the true answers that count.

This is surely the truth. Most people are concerned with the 'effect' and not the cause. She, unasked, proceeded to give me several 'messages' from the spirit world, which I honestly failed to recognize.

Many years ago, a young lady by name of 'Jean Dennis' was a terrific sensation in vaudeville. This Modern Nostradamus was billed as a psychic in the leading theatres. Spectators desiring an answer to their questions would simply hold up their hand, and when acknowledged, stand and verbally ask Miss Dennis their question, and immediately receive an answer. It was as simple as all that!

While there was certainly nothing sensational in the routine, it goes to prove that it is not what you do, but how you do it that counts. In this case, the answer - was the answer!

Whether Miss Dennis possessed any real psychic power is not for me to say, but she was very effective on her answers and was the rage of the day. The more modern presentation is for the mentalist to (apparently) divine the questions and data in the spectator's mind by telepathy or some means unknown to the audience, and THEN answer the question or reveal the thoughts.

To get back to the original theme, I do insist that persons long in this work do develop a very keen insight or intuition, or whatever you choose to call it. They learn to 'guess' correctly with a very high percentage. It has been my firm conviction that the experiments in HELLSTROMISM are definitely associated with a highly developed sixth sense. The continued presentation of this form of mentalism does develop a keenness and psychic insight in the solution of the tests. I have found this as a result of personal experience, and can recommend Hellstromism to all who are seriously interested in developing their psychic ability.

Hellstromism is often referred to as 'muscle reading', yet this is indeed a misnomer. Hellstromism is the acquired ability to perceive thoughts in the subject's minds thru various ways and means - other than 'muscle reading'.

I have personally found in many tests - by using a good subject - that I would immediately mentally discern the full text of the test, once mentally chosen by the subject - and proceed to execute the mentally selected test, while the subject stood nearby, open-mouthed.

Having been associated in all phases of mentalism for the past forty years, I, too, am firmly convinced that the constant contact with things psychic does enhance and develop a keener sense and intuition. This is said in all sincerity.
