Harry Houdini’s crusade against spiritualism in the 1920s was a passionate, public campaign to expose mediums, mystics, and fortune tellers as frauds who exploited the vulnerable. Following the death of his mother, Houdini initially sought genuine contact with the afterlife but became enraged by what he viewed as magician tricks used by mediums to prey on grieving people.
